Elton John's Ex-Wife Says He Violated Their Divorce Agreement In His Memoir

Elton John's ex-wife Renate Blauel is suing the singer for £3 million (about $3.8 million), claiming he violated the terms of their divorce agreement in his 2019 autobiography, Me.

John and Blauel were married from 1984 - 1988.

The Independent reports that Blauel first took legal action in June, hoping to resolve the issue "amicably," but now she has resorted to a lawsuit.

New documents confirm that John agreed to remove some details about their relationship from the book before it was published. But Blauel, a German-born sound engineer, said what remained violated their divorce and aggravated some long-standing mental health issues.

Blauel reportedly told the court that she adopted a new identity and went into hiding in hopes of shedding her ties to her Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ex.

John and Blauel met in 1983 while he was recording his Breaking Hearts album. After striking up a close friendship, they married the following year.

While John had previously described himself as bisexual, a few years following his divorce from Blauel, he told Rolling Stone that he was gay.

Among other passages about their relationship in Me, John laments his lack of contact with his former wife since their breakup. He added that he hoped she would meet his children, but she has refused.
