Beatles' Letter Announcing Firing Of Drummer Pete Best Is Up For Auction

A letter from The Beatles' manager, Brian Epstein, announcing the firing of the band's original drummer Pete Best is up for auction.

Best joined up with John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison in 1960, and was with the band when Epstein signed them to a management contract in 1962.

Lennon and McCartney grew unhappy with Best's performance on their earliest recordings and the drummer was given the sack and replaced by Ringo Starr just a few months before The Beatles' began their unprecedented breakthrough.

The letter, which was sent on September 8, 1962, was from Epstein to the band's booking manager Joe Flannery.

"I read from Mersey Beat Pete Best has not joined The ALL STARS and I though [sic] I'd let you know that I have sent today, to him a certificate of release from his obligations under contract to myself," Epstein wrote.

Best eventually left the music industry for other career opportunities.

The historic letter is expected to fetch at least £1,000 ($1,291) at auction, but the manager at Omega Auctions told CNN that there is "every chance" it could sell for much more.

An entire collection of more than 200 Beatles items — many of which are associated with Flannery — being sold by Omega Auctions is expected to earn £60,000 - £80,000 ($77,500 - $103,000).
