Queen Might Actually Be Considering 'Bohemian Rhapsody' Sequel

91st Annual Academy Awards - Governors Ball

Queen and its management are seriously considering a sequel to the Oscar-winning Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, according to someone close to the band.

Within weeks of its release, Bohemian Rhapsody became the highest-grossing music biopic of all-time, bringing in $870 million worldwide, despite mixed reviews from fans and critics. Last month, the film added four Academy Awards — including "Best Actor" for its star Rami Malek — to its growing pile of awards.

Rudi Dolezal, who directed several of Queen's classic music videos, recently told Page Six that he is "sure" Queen's manager Jim Beach is planning a Bohemian Rhapsody sequel that starts with Live Aid.

He says the follow-up is "being heavily discussed in the Queen family."

Dolezal, who made 30 videos with Queen, began working with the band around the period of time the last scenes in Bohemian Rhapsody depict.

Queen guitarist Brian May quipped in a December interview that he felt comfortable with the point in the story at which the film ends. But he added, "Who knows, there might be a sequel."

Dolezal also told Page Six that he's writing a book, My Friend, Freddie, that deals with his friendship with Mercury and a film of Mercury interviews called Freddie Mercury: In His Own Words.

A week ago, May expressed his disillusionment with the film industry. With the Oscars behind him, May explained how frustrated he was with the awards season coverage.

The band recently announced plans for a two-hour documentary to air on ABC in April, The Show Must Go On: The Queen + Adam Lambert Story.

Queen + Adam Lambert is scheduled to get back on the road this summer for its "Rhapsody" Tour 2019.
