New York City is refunding and dismissing millions of dollars in parking tickets because of errors, officials with the department of finance announced.
A spokesperson announced Monday night that a change in a parking ticket rule had not been applied to tickets that had already been issued, reports New York 1.
The error had to do with tickets issued for motorists who failed to display a Muni Meter receipt.
The city is refunding about 400,000 tickets worth $18 million. It is also dismissing another 100,000 tickets worth another $8 million.
Anyone entitled to a refund will get either a refund check or a letter explaining their ticket has been dismissed.
