Eric Clapton's 'Heir to Blackie' Stratocaster Is for Sale

Eric Clapton's "Heir to Blackie" Fender Stratocaster guitar is up for auction again.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the minimum offer is $325,000, but the guitar is expected to fetch more than $500,000.

The black and white guitar was played by Clapton between 1990 - 1993, a period which included Cream's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction in 1993.

The guitar was built in the image of the original "Blackie" Stratocaster and is considered the first-ever Eric Clapton Signature Stratocaster, since it was built to Clapton's specifications and intended to be reproduced for retail.

The original "Blackie," which Clapton used for more than 15 years from 1973 to 1988, stunned the guitar world when it sold for a then-record-breaking $959,500 in 2004.

"Heir to Blackie" was also sold on that night in 2004 for about $200,000.

San Francisco Art Exchange is handling this new auction.

Guitar Player magazine reports "Heir to Blackie" is the last "smoking" guitar associated with Clapton, since Slowhand quit the habit in 1993. "Heir to Blackie" reportedly has cigarette burns on its headstock from Clapton pinning lit cigarettes between the strings there.
