CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - South Carolina gas prices rose 5.8 cents per gallon in the past week, now averaging $3.07 per gallon, according to GasBuddy.
That data comes from GasBuddy’s daily survey of 3,028 stations across the state and shows gas prices in South Carolina are up 16.3 cents per gallon higher than one month ago and $1.18 per gallon higher than a year ago.

It’s the highest gas price since Oct. 18, 2013, when the price-per-gallon stood at $3.13.
GasBuddy Head Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan said the price of oil continues to “drag gas prices along for the wild ride, leaving motorists on empty.” He says OPEC is holding back oil production despite strong global oil demand and expects even higher gas prices in the weeks ahead.
“Until several bottlenecks ease, including supply chains and low global inventories of oil, natural gas and coal, we’ll be stuck feeling the pinch of rising oil and gasoline prices,” DeHaan said. “The bad news is that for now, all I see is the upward trend at the pump continuing into the weeks ahead with no sign of relief just yet.”
Gas prices statewide ranged from $2.85 per gallon to $3.62, a range of 77 cents.
As of Monday morning, the lowest price in the Charleston area was $2.85 per gallon at multiple locations in West Ashley.
In Columbia, the average price per gallon was $3.01, up 5.2 cents from the previous week. Gas prices rose eight cents per gallon in the Spartanburg area last week to an average of $3.05 per gallon. And in the Augusta area, where the average is now $3.06 per gallon, gas prices rose 7.1 cents from the previous week.
