iHeartRadio Charleston and Y102.5 have teamed up with the American Cancer Society for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women. The American Cancer Society has predicted that there will be over 300,000 new cases of breast cancer in 2019. Today, there are over 3.1 million breast cancer survivors in the United States, including those still fighting the battle.
The American Cancer Society hosts Making Strides events nationwide to raise valuable funds to find solutions through new treatments and support services, while uniting communities through a common cause. Other breast cancer foundations are also hosting events throughout the month of October to raise awareness and funds.

Real Men Wear Pink & PinktoberFest Kick-Off
Kick-off October and Breast Cancer Awareness Month at the inaugural PinktoberFest, a Charleston brewery collaboration for breast cancer support at Edmund's Oast Brewing. Meet the "real men" in pink, who are community leaders that will be raising funds all month long. The "Real Men Wear Pink" candidates are:

Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Event with John O'Hurley
John O'Hurley will host Metastatic Breast Cancer Film Night at the Charleston Music Hall. This event sponsored by the Swain Department of Nursing at The Citadel raises awareness through the emotionally moving documentaries.
Two documentaries will be shown during this evening:
- The first, Marathons for Mom, tells the story of a mother's 6 year fight with metastatic breast cancer that inspired her son to run six marathons across the United States in a year.
- The second, Love Always, Mom, is a documentation of Tricia Russo's struggle to become a mother while fighting metastatic breast cancer. Doctor visits, family time, and other events in the Russo's life were filmed to tell this story of motherly love.
Doors open at 5:00PM and the show begins at 6:00PM.

Join Susan G. Komen South Carolina on Sunday, October 13th for their Promise Tea at James Island County Park.
This event celebrates survivors, those currently living with metastatic breast cancer, and the mission of Susan G. Komen to end breast cancer. Dr. Paula D. Bos, a Komen funded researcher, will be in attendance as speaker for the event. There will be treats from Kaminski's and refreshments from Starbucks, as well as a $10 raffle to support the mission.
Dress comfortably for the Pound It exercise that will take place from 2:30PM - 3:00PM.

Beach Bash and Awareness Walk
Join John O'Hurley and the Swain Department of Nursing at The Citadel for the inaugural one-mile Beach Bash walk for Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day. Proceeds from the event will benefit the launch of the Charleston-based nonprofit, Racing for MBC. The walk will end at Citadel Beach Club with food and drinks, and a sunset concert by the Ultimate Eagles Tribute Band - On the Border.

The Works in downtown Charleston is hosting two donation-based yoga classes on Saturday, October 26th. Annual Survivor Candlelight Gala
The Embracing U Foundation is hosting their Annual Survivor Candlelight Gala on Saturday, October 26th at the Charleston Area Convention Center.
This event celebrates breast cancer survivors in the community, while raising funds for its mission. Embracing U assists those in the tri-county area who are battling breast cancer, or have recently survived it. Their mission is to embrace, educate, and empower those diagnosed to live a healthy life during all stages of breast cancer.
It will be a night full of celebration with formal attire, dancing, dinner, and a silent auction.

Making Strides of Charleston
The American Cancer Society hosts Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks nationwide to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer. It is 3.5 mile, noncompetitive walk to unite communities to make a difference. The American Cancer Society uses the money raised to fund innovative research, provide free information + support, and help women catch breast cancer in its earliest form.
This celebration of survivors and remembrance of loved ones lost takes place at North Charleston Riverfront Park. Registration begins at 12:00PM and the walk begins at 2:30PM.
This year's goal is $150,000 - join the walk here and help knock out breast cancer.
