Nitro Is Back...and Offering to Autograph Their Socks for Money

The '80s hair metal band Nitro is back with a hilarious crowdfunding campaign to fund a new album.

But first, among the more interesting perks of contributing to make the new album a reality: "another dirty old sock" (because the first one sold out).

Featuring ambidextrous guitar hero Michael Angelo Batio and singer Jim Gillettefrom the band's original lineup, a new campaign video explains why Nitro never reached its full potential in the '80s, and how it came to enlist Lamb of God drummer Chris Adler for the revamped lineup in 2017.

The video starts with Adler recounting how he came to be involved in the project.

"One, do I have the chops?" Adler deadpans. "Two, am I old enough for this gig? And three, most importantly, do I have the hair."

Seeing fixtures of '80s excess like Gillette and Batio fully committed to self-deprecation makes the video truly priceless. Gillette says the aesthetic is part of the reinvention of the group as a more authentic entity.

"We wanted to show people that we can take the piss out of ourselves without pissing all over our past," he says, talking about the campaign. "After seeing the finished video for the first time I can tell you that Adler is arguable the world's most interesting man. Yes, we have a sense of humor. But, make no mistake, we take our music seriously."

The band plans to have the album ready by next spring.
