Charleston City Police, Charleston Fire, and EMS are clearing King Street after an umbrella was revealed as what was in a 'suspicious' package.
According to dispatch, a call came in around 11:47 PM, in reference to a suspicious package on King Street near George Street and Calhoun Street.
Charleston City Police PIO Charles Francis says a woman returned to her home on Vanderhorst Street from dinner between 11PM and 11:30PM to find a package in front of her house that she says she did not order.
The woman partially opened the package and noticed an odor, so did not continue to open it. She put it in the trunk of her car and found an officer in front of Gilroy's Pizza. She told the officer what she had and the officer notified dispatch.
A bomb squad arrived on scene with a robot. The fire department did an initial test for any hazardous materials and it came out negative.
The robot opened the package to find out that it was an umbrella.
Shortly after 3:00AM officials were clearing the scene.
During the time of the investigation, King Street, George Street, and Calhoun Street were shut down and people in the area were asked to remain inside.
