NORTH CHARLESTON, SC - North Charleston Police say a man shot himself in the foot Monday night.

According to a spokesperson for the North Charleston Police Department, police and EMS responded to Comstock Avenue at Davis Street just before 7 p.m. Monday for a man suffering from a gunshot wound between his toes.

The victim originally told police he was shot by an unknown person in the area, but several people in the area told investigators that the man was allegedly seen playing with a gun when it went off.

Later, the victim admitted to police that he accidentally shot himself.

EMS transported the man to the Medical University of South Carolina with non-life threatening injuries.

Police recovered the weapon and the subject is being charged with unlawful carrying of a firearm.
