From the Associated Press:
HARTSVILLE, S.C. (AP) — The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission says it is meeting with Duke Energy about the company's apparent failure to perform adequate preventive maintenance at the Robinson nuclear power plant in South Carolina.
Monday's meeting takes place in Atlanta. NRC spokesman Roger Hannah says the incident occurred in October 2012 at the Hartsville plant.
Hannah says the issue involves the failure of radiator fan belts and the subsequent automatic shutdown of the dedicated shutdown diesel generator.
The spokesman says there was no threat to workers or residents living nearby. However, officials say the poorly maintained fan belts could have contributed to a generator not being available during a loss of power or a fire.
NRC officials say they will announce any actions taken at a later time.
